Notes - Newspaper Obituary - August 19, 2008 Times Telegram - Herkimer, New York - Thomas S. Davis - Mr. Thomas S. Davis, 83, formerly of 470 Otsego St., Ilion and more recently Folts Home, Herkimer, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Utica. He was born in Richland, N.Y. on Sept. 27, 1924, the son of Thomas W. Davis and Frances Stewart Davis. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1942. After extensive training as an aircraft mechanic he went to the South Pacific theater during World War II where he served in the Marshall Islands until the end of the war. Upon returning home he married Jane H. Davis on Oct. 15, 1945, a union of 62 years until her passing in December of 2007. Tom stayed in the Navy for two more years and received training in electronics and worked on Link trainers before being honorably discharged in 1948. He worked as a carpenter for many years, and then in the electronics and computer field as a technician and engineer, retiring from MDS in 1987. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed many good times deer hunting in Nobleboro with his friends, and fishing in the Ilion Gorge. An avid astronomer he enjoyed time with his telescope in his backyard and loved to work in his vegetable garden. He is survived by his children; a son, Thomas W. (Bill) and his wife, Mary of Mohawk; a son, Robert and his wife, Jean of St. Johnsville, and a daughter, Jane E. (Better) of Mohawk; six grandchildren, Christopher and wife, Lisa of Whitestown, Michael and wife, Karlee of Mohawk, Charlotte Davis, Jennie Davis and Robert and wife, Candace of Amsterdam and Katie Davis of Mohawk. He is also survived by his sister, Joan and her husband David Carter of Charlottesville, Va., and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Davis will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 10:30 a.m. from the Whiter-Henrix Funeral Home Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion, with Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating. Interment will follow in the Richland Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, Aug. 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends are asked to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society in Tom's memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
