- Newspaper Obituary - (Source Unknown) - Joan Beatrice Davis Carter, 81, of Charlottesville, Virginia passed from this life on November 18, 2012 at Martha Jefferson Hospital. Since the death of her husband, David F. Carter, in July 2011, she has resided at Mountainside Senior Living in Crozet, Virginia. She was born June 7, 1931 in Richland, Oswego County, New York to Thomas William and Frances (Stewart) Davis. Joan grew up and attended school in Richland, New York. She married her husband November 14, 1948 and they lived in Ira, New York until 1960 when they moved to Lynchburg, Virginia, and later to Charlottesville in 1962. Joan worked as a secretary in the Emergency Room and Private Clinics of UVA Hospital, and later for Dr. John K. Youel. Her family is a very important part of her life and she found special enjoyment in her grand and great-grandchildren who she helped care for in their young lives. She had many dogs during her adult life who were a comfort to her as she struggled with serious health issues. Joan is predeceased by her parents, her husband of 64 years, daughter Jacki, and brother, Thomas (Bud) Davis. She leaves behind her daughters Cheryl (Cherie) Snead and husband Ronald, Beth Gibson and husband Don, granddaughters Julie Garton Edwards and Megan Garton, the grandchildren's father, Larry W. Garton, three great-grandchildren Amya, Taniya and TJ Edwards, a special cousin, Harold Stewart of Baldwinsville, New York, and many nieces and nephews.
