Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, December 3, 1975 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Hobert Lester of Orwell dies ¬Hobert Lester, 77, of Orwell passed away on Tuesday, November 25 at the House of the Good Samaritan Hospital, Watertown where he had been a patient for 5 weeks. He was born on January 19, 1898 in the Town of Boylston, the son of Charles and Amelia Bargy Lester. He attended school in Boylston and married Catherine M. Bennett of Richland on March 17, 1920. Mr. Lester was Postmaster at Richland from 1931 to 1935. He served on the Oswego County Draft Board and was Justice of the Peace in Richland for many years. Mr. Lester was a councilman of the Sandy Creek Town Board and was a Republican committeeman in Sandy Creek. He owned and operated a farm machinery business in Pulaski and later in Sandy Creek. For several years, he was a trustee of the Richland Cemetery Association and of the Wesleyan Cemetery at Boylston. For the past 20 years, he spent the - winter months in Fellsmere, Florida where he was on the city council for four years. Mr. Lester was a member of the Sandy Creek Lodge No. 564 F. & A.M., Pulaski Grange No. 730, Pulaski Lodge No. 648, I.O.O.F. and the Church of Christ in Richland. Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Hazel) Babcock of Henderson, New York, Mrs. Marshall (Mildred) Minot of Richland, Mrs. Leonard (Dorothy) Schryver, Sr. of Mannsville and Mrs. Wendell (Irma) Chapman of Brewerton; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, November 28 at 2 p.m. at the Richland Church of Christ with the Rev,. Gene Kearns and Rev. Gerald H. Brownell officiating. Burial was in Richland Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were made by Foster-Hax Funeral Home of Pulaski. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, should be made to the American Cancer Fund.
