- Mary Kendrat Porcynaluk, 93, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Fort Bend Healthcare Center, Rosenberg, Texas. Mary was born in Syracuse, New York, on April 20, 1916, to Michael and Anna Kendrat. She resided in Syracuse until 1984, when she moved to Richmond, Texas. In Syracuse, Mary worked for several years at Dey Brothers Department Store. She and her husband, Bill, also owned and operated the Wigwam Hotel on Sandy Pond. Upon moving to Richmond, Mary donated many hours volunteering at the Helping Hands Center in the community. Mary enjoyed cooking and all kinds of needlework, especially crocheting, and many of her afghans were donated to local charity auctions. Mary was the oldest of six children; she was predeceased by her sister Helen and brothers Michael, Harry and Nicholas. She was also predeceased by her son, Michael, in 1969 and by her husband, Bill, in 1981. She is survived by her son, Bill, and his wife, Pat, of Richmond, Texas, and her granddaughters Jennifer Bautista, her husband, Christian, and their son, Noah, of Lewisville, Texas, and Emily Garrison and her husband, Martin, and their son, Jeremiah, of Austin, Texas; her youngest brother, Bill Kendrat of Fayetteville, NY; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from Macko-Vassallo Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 1609 W. Genesee St. The Panakhyda Service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
