    • Newspaper Obituary - August 23, 1999 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - ERNEST "TRIX' FONE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT RETIREE - The funeral for Ernest "Trix" Fone, 83, of 2001 Ellis Road, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. Burial will be in Ellisburg Cemetery. Mr. Fone died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday at his home after a long illness. He worked on the family farm for several years and was employed by the town of Ellisburg Highway Department, retiring in the late 1970s. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Born Jan. 30, 1916, in Mannsville, son of Frederick E. and Hattie Hagaman Fone Sr., he attended the Cobblestone Schoolhouse, town of Ellisburg, and Mannsville-Manor School. A marriage to Eva Stewart ended in divorce. He married Arlene M. LaGray on Feb. 8, 1959, in Mannsville with Justice Wilfred Ellingsworth officiating. Mr. Fone enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, trapping, raccoon hunting, ginseng root hunting and growing and selling potatoes. He was a coach in the South Jefferson Babe Ruth baseball league in the early 1980s and a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees baseball team. Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Mrs. Edward (Brenda) Mullin, Parish, Mrs. Lester (Elizabeth) Berghorn, Tylerville, Mrs. Steven (Belinda-Spring) Luffman, Mannsville, and Mrs. George (Connie) Hoffman, Blossvale; two sons, Dennis, Hillsborough, N.C., and Randolph, Mannsville; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Norman (Arlene-Tina) West, Camden; two stepsons, George Nemier, Falls River, Mass., and Wendell Nemier, Adams Center; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A son, Ernest F. Jr.; three sisters, Ernestine Fone, his twin sister, and Mary Spicer and Jennie Hamlin; three brothers, Frederick Jr., Floyd and William, and a half sister, Sarah Marsh, died before him. A daughter died in infancy. Contributions may be made to Mannsville-Manor Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 144, Mannsville, N.Y. 13661.
