Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, July 6, 1893 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - Very suddenly in Pulaski, New York, June 30, 1893, Aaron Slosson Richards, aged 72 years. This well known and highly respected citizen was born at Richfield, Otsego county, New York January 21, 1821. He came to this town, Richland, in 1835, and settled at South Richland, making his home with an uncle, J. N. Dewey. Here he lived until his marriage with Miss Ann J. Sweetland, of Jordan, Onondaga county, February 3, 1852. Mr. and Mrs. Richards resided in South Richland until November, 1866, when they removed to Pulaski, where they have since resided. He was baptized and received into the membership of the South Richland Baptist church in December, 1849, when Rev. J. S. Everingham was pastor. He was regularly ordained deacon of that body in 1856, and was made deacon of the Pulaski church in December, 1869. Three children blessed this union, one of whom died in early childhood. Another, Adelbert A., died in 1890, aged 31 years. Sonora A., the only child surviving, is now with her mother to comfort and console her in these hours of sorrow and desolation. Deacon Richards was a man of most positive convictions and he acted strictly in accord with their leadings. In discussing any plan of action, the first thing he considered was not whether the thing was politic, or liable to succeed, but, "was it right." While many may have disagreed with him, all alike yielded to him, his high compliment. "He is perfectly honest in his dealings and acts precisely in accord with his convictions of right." A good man has gone to his reward and his departure is a great loss not only to the church of which he was a member but also to the community at large. The funeral was held at his late residence and the services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. D. J. Bailey.
