    • Stewart Rites This Afternodn

      Last rites for Leland T. Stewart, 74, retired railroad employee, will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at the Foster Funeral home. The Rev. Stanley E. Skinner, State Director of Rural Institute at Cornell Campus, Ithaca, will officiate. A spring burial will be in Maple View Cemetery.

      Mr. Stewart died late Monday afternoon at the Veterans Hospital in Syracuse following a short illness.

      His only survivor is a daughter, Miss June Stewart of Syracuse.

      Mr. Stewart was born in Pulaski on Jan. 20, 1891, the son of Fred and Mattie Rood Stewart. He received his early education in Pulaski Academy
      and was married to Miss Lois E. Rood in 1928. Her death occurred April 2, 1958.

      He served in both the Army and Navy during World War 1 and retired from the New York Central Railroad in 1956 after 44 years of service. He entered the employ of the railroad in 1912 and was a telegraph operator at the old Richland station for 15 years.

      He was a well known gun collector and gunsmith in this area and a member of the National Rifle Association of America. He was also a member of Richland Methodist Church, the Salmon River Barracks No. 149, Veterans of World War I, and a past member of Robert Edwards Post, 358, American Legion in Pulaski.

      He had lived in Richland most of his life and after his retirement moved to Sandy Creek. More recently he resided at Ricard.
