George G. "Swede" Soderlund Jr., 74, of 96 Delano St., died Thursday evening at his home.
Mr. Soderlund was a life resident of Pulaski. He was employed by the state Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation at Selkirk State Park, retiring in 1989 as a foreman after 45 years of service.
He was a member of Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department for 42 years, retiring in 1994, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7289. He also was an avid outdoorsman.
Born Feb. 18, 1927, in Pulaski, the son of George G. Sr. and Martha A. Holley Soderlund, he attended Pulaski Academy.
He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946.
He married Helen Mae Hyde on Nov. 17, 1951, at Immaculate Conception Church, Fulton.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, George E., Lacona, and Greg E., Pulaski; a daughter, Judith A. Giacobbe, Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Junia Buck, Constantia, and a grandson.
A sister, Astrid Archer, died before him.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home. Burial will be in South Richland Cemetery, Fernwood.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
