Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, June 8, 1950 Mexico Independent - Mexico, New York - Velma Harmes Dies Suddenly - Pulaski ¬Miss Velma F. Harmes, 33, Fernwood, died Sunday morning in the Oswego City hospital where she had been a patient eight days. She was born June 2, 1917, in Mexico, daughter of the late Fred and Jennie Hurtt Harmes. She attended Mexico Central school and had been employed in the Arthur store in Mexico as a clerk. She is survived by five sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Nichols and Mrs. Marvis Hardy, Mexico; Mrs. Glen Carpenter, Pulaski; Mrs. Ruth Clohosey, Carlisle, Pennsylvania; and Mrs. Pauline Cornwall, West Monroe; three brothers, Harold, Caledonia; Elroy, Mexico, and Myron Harmes, Fernwood. Services were private at the home in Fernwood at 2 p.m. Wednesday where friends called from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Burial was in Willis cemetery, Fernwood, with the Rev. Charles Terry of the Mexico Presbyterian church conducting the service.
