      Surviving are his wife, Phyllis J.; a son, Eric D., Norton, Ohio; two daughters, Amy M. and Alison S., both of Akron, Ohio; his mother, Catherine Upton, Oswego; a sister, Jean Pelham, Albany, and several nephews and nieces.

      Born in Pulaski, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Upton, he was a graduate of Pulaski Academy and Central School and received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind.

      He married Phyllis J. Sloan on June 30, 1957, at Akron Baptist Temple, Akron, Ohio, with the Rev. Charles F. Billington officiating.

      Mr. Upton was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., Akron, Ohio, and served in the Army Reserves.

      He had been a resident of Akron most of his life.
