Edward Franklin Gregory, 71, of Orondo Avenue peacefully slipped away from us into the loving arms of Jesus to walk the streets of gold and was laid to rest in a casket trimmed in gold. He was born in Pulaski, NY on November 27, 1940, to Ned and Frances (Granger) Gregory. Once a Marine, always a Marine; Semper Fidelis. He served his country as a decorated Marine and earned rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. He was an Aircrew Member with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 163 in Vietnam. On the 100th Mission, his helo was shot down and then captured by enemy forces, then escaped capture and were picked up by a Marine recon team. He received the Good Conduct Medal with a bronze star twice, A Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, and a Rifle Sharpshooter badge along with numerous other medals. He served 10 years in the Marines and flew 100 missions into enemy territory. He came home to Wenatchee, after living in Kannapolis, NC. He loved his family, enjoyed get- togethers with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed sitting outside, smoking and watching them play. His favorite was spaghetti and meatballs and he was a hearty eater. He enjoyed going to church and singing hymns, especially "Amazing Grace". He was an avid bowler and won trophies for championships. He was a hardcore football fan that never missed a game, from the opening game to the Super Bowl, while relaxing with his feet up. His favorite team was the New York Giants.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ned and Frances Gregory and his brother Bill Gregory. He is survived by his loving wife, Starlene, of the home; sisters, Vicky "Tinkerbell" Gregory of Watertown, NY, Robin Stephenson of Niagara Falls, NY and Linda Marfleet of Towanda, NY; his children, Matthew Gregory of Spokane, Chandra Conrad of Wenatchee, Kevin and Heidi Gregory of East Wenatchee, Chris and Lisa Crane of Wenatchee, Sandy Conrad of Wenatchee, Abigail and Jonathon Albee of Miles City, MT and Gwendolyn Gregory of Wenatchee; his special care giver, Samuel Hall of Wenatchee; his special sister-in-law, Kristi Helms of Kannapolis, NC; his special nephew, Christopher Helms, who was his mini- me. He loved and adored his grandchildren: Lane and Teisha Gregory, Cabe Gregory, Kingsley and Kayleigh Gregory, Cameron and Kyle Cheers, Sydnie and Taylor Gregory, Devon and Christina Crane, Mary Conrad, and his special side kick, love of his life, and namesake, Edward Hall. Also, newest addition and 1st great-grandchild, Jamie Gregory.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 15, 2012, at Jones & Jones ~ Betts Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2012 from 5 - 8 p.m., at Jones & Jones ~ Betts Funeral Home.
