      William E. Rood, 83, of Baldwinsville died Friday at the Birchwood Home Health Center after a long illness.

      Mr. Rood was raised in Parish and Pulaski. He graduated from Pulaski High School and Morrisville College, majoring in agriculture. For 20 years, Mr. Rood worked for the state Department of Transportation's Bureau of Canals as a canal structure operator and chief lock operator. For 10 years, he was an assembler at Easy Washer Corp. while also working as a self-employed dairy farmer.

      Mr. Rood was a member of the Warners United Methodist Church, the Baldwinsville Rod and Gun Club and McHarris Legacy.

      Surviving are his wife, Marion; two brothers, Charles Frederick of Spring Hill, Fla., and Holland of Englewood, Fla.; five sisters, Orla Skinner and Elnora Rood, both of Pulaski, Nellie Pearson of Parish, Laura James of Syracuse and Anna Mae Reed of Onondaga Hill; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

      Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Warners First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Jack Kissell officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Lawn Cemetery, Dugway.

      There will be no calling hours. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall.

      Contributions may be made to the Baldwinsville Public Library or the Warners United Methodist Church.

      Gates Funeral Home, Baldwinsville, has charge of arrangements.
