- Newspaper Obituary - August 11, 1997 Watertown Daily Times - BARBARA O. ROBARGE RED CROSS VOLUNTEER - Barbara Jane Orton Robarge, 71, Crestview Circle, Central Square, a Pulaski native, died Sunday at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Robarge was a former employee at Casual Corner, Central Square. She was a communicant and former secretary of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Central Square, where she was a lay reader and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of Fuller-Taylor American Legion Post 915 Auxiliary, Central Square, and had volunteered for over 40 years with the American Red Cross and was formerly active in the Girl Scouts. Born July 13, 1926, in Pulaski, daughter of Avery and Edwina Skinner Orton, she graduated from Pulaski Academy and Central School and attended Ohio State University where she was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. Mrs. Robarge was a direct descendant of early Jefferson County pioneers. Her great-great-great-grandfather was Dr. Abel Sherman, who came to Watertown from Brimfield, Mass., about 1803. Through her great-grandmother, Mrs. Martha Orinda Sherman Orton, she was a 10th-generation descendant of Edmund Sherman, who came to Massachusetts from England in 1634. She married Stanley J. Robarge on Oct. 28, 1944, at the home of the bride's parents in Pulaski with the Rev. W.A. Gardner officiating. The couple lived in Central Square for over 50 years. Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Edward "Ned" and Robert, both of Central Square, and Kenneth, Brewerton; two daughters, Susan Michaels, Syracuse, and Nancy Robarge, Central Square; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and a cousin. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Watson Funeral Home, Central Square, and at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Hospice of Central New York, P.O. Box 69, Syracuse, N.Y. 13208 or to St. Michael's Church.
