- Newspaper Obituary - July 13, 2012 The Citizen - Auburn, New York - Katherine M. Harris - AUBURN | Katherine M. Harris, 90, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 11, 2012 with her loving family by her side. Born in Lorain, Ohio, she was the daughter of Charles and Icie Harris. She grew up and attended nursing school in Washington, DC, then worked at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC. While she was there, she was integral in using the first iron long and was one of the first to try out penicillin. Katherine later moved to the Auburn area and married her late husband, Arthur, and had two beautiful boys. They raised the boys on their dairy farm and Katerine continued to work the farm and raise her boys, on top of continuing her nursing at various agencies in the area, including Auburn Memorial Hospital and The Home. In later years, she had some health concerns, but they didn't damper her sweet spirit, always with a warm smile and a kind word for all that crossed her path. Katherine had a green thumb and loved plants especially the flowering varieties and they thrived under her tender loving care. She was very deep into the Lord and would talk about him to anyone who would listen for a moment. With all of her achievements in life, her proudest thoughts were of her fine hardworking boys, whom she loved boasting about and loved them very much. Katerine is survived by one son, Daniel and his wife, Shawn, of Montezuma, as well as very special friends, Dell and Kathy who have been angels on earth to her over the last few years. In addition to her parents, Katherine was predeceased by her husband, Art, in 1982, and her oldest son, Fred, who went to be with the Lord in 1996. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Katherine set down her stethoscope and her garden trowel to be with the Lord Our Savior ... Rest in Peace Katie Audioun Funeral Home LLC., 218 Main St., Port Byron. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the charity of one's choice.
