MOTHER AND BABE LOSE LIVES
Mrs. Florence Ward Spaulding, 25, and her seven-months-old daughter, Caron, were burned to death in a fire which destroyed the Spaulding home on the Kingdom road, town of
Volney, early Wednesday morning.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Spaulding and Gordon Spaulding, a son, escaped from the burning building in their night clothes. The story and a half farm house was completely destroyed with all its contents, inclduing $200 in money and several war bonds.
Mrs. Spaulding and her daughter were asleep in a room on the second floor and attempts to rescue them by the father and son were frustrated by the flames.
The remains of mother and daughter were found during the afternoon.
Corp. Frederick Spaulding, on duty at Camp Campbell, Ky., had wired his wife that he would arrive home on furlough Wednesday night and the message came Wednesday morning after the fire. He arrived in Syracuse at 8:30 p. m., v/r.ere hag was met by relatives and informed of the tragedy. He had never seen his baby.
Mrs. Spaulding is survived by her husband, her father, Newten Ward, of Granby, a brother, Edwin Ward
