Newspaper Obituary — Wednesday, June 11, 1924 Pulaski Democrat — Pulaski, New York — Aged Resident of Pulaski Dies of Burns — Last Friday, Mr. and Mrs. W. Fayette Austin went to Selkirk to open their cottages and when Mr. Austin went into the one near the mouth of the Salmon River, and lit a match, the room, being filled with natural gas was the scene of an explosion which burned him so severely that he died the next day. The cottage was badly damaged. Mr. Austin was born in the town of Albion, July 21, 1833. For some time he was engaged in boating. He came to Pulaski many years ago where he, at one time, was engaged in the clothing business. He was a member of Pulaski Methodist Church; Pulaski Lodge, F. & A.M. and Pulaski chapter, O.E.S. He was twice married. Besides the widow he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lewis J. Macy and Miss Elizabeth Austin, of this village. He leaves one brother, Ezra L. Austin, of Oswego. Masonic funeral services were held from the home, Lake Street. yesterday at 2 o'clock. Rev. E. H. Scott officiated. Burial was made in Pulaski Cemetery. Mr. Austin has been remarkably active for a man of his years and has survived some severe illnesses and it seems very sad to think he should be taken by the way of such an awful accident which befell him when he was so badly burned. Friends were present at the funeral from Oswego, Fulton and other places.
