The funeral for Dennis E. Davis, 88, Eisenhower Road, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, with the Rev. Thomas Howell, former pastor of the Vorea Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in Ellisburg Cemetery.
Mr. Davis died at noon Sunday in Oswego Hospital, where he had been admitted April 7.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Davis went to work for Blount Lumber, Lacona, in 1954 and retired in 1977.
He enjoyed woodworking and mowing lawns for the village of Ellisburg during his retirement years. He was a member of the Ellisburg Volunteer Fire Department.
Born Jan. 25, 1915, on Torrey Hill Road in the town of Ellisburg, son of Arthur and Mae Edmonds Davis, he attended school in Ellisburg. He worked on the family farm following school. He also worked on various dairy farms in the Ellisburg area, for F.E. Hudson at his butcher block shop in Ellisburg and at Queens Farms Dairy, Pierrepont Manor, in his early years.
He married Ella E. Loomis in 1933 in Mexico. They lived in Mexico for a short time before moving to Ellisburg, where they remained. Mrs. Davis died Aug. 12, 1990.
Surviving are a son, Omar A., Pulaski; a daughter, Joyce A. Davis, Lacona; a brother, Donald, Mannsville; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, a niece and seven nephews.
A son, Charles D., a daughter, Beverly Porter, a sister, Dorene Clark, and three brothers, Clyde, Uhlan and Omar, died before him.
