- Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 10, 1881 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - Jones - Betsey I. Campbell, widow of Isaac I. Jones, died at the residence of her son, Lucius, and Pulaski, March 7th, 1881, aged 84 years. Mother Jones was born in Kirkland, Oneida County. She was married at the age of twenty-five and moved to Vernon and thence to Constantia, in this county. She was from Scottish ancestors, and her life exhibited the best features of that nationality. At the age of sixteen she became a decided Christian and for nearly seventy years, her life has been an exhibition of "things pure and lovely and of good report." Her character is well described in Paul's portrait of a Christian woman, "The beloved Persis, which labored much in the Lord." She was universally "beloved." She was "in the Lord" as to her spirit life, and the result was a dignified mien and winsome conduct. It was not soft and languid wishing for the happiness of others, not such work as could be done in the parlor or drawing room. Her hand was strong and tender to minister by sick beds. She "labored much," and her life was spent in toil for others, and her tasks were severe though the heart was cheerful. She was womanly but not effeminate, strong-minded, but refined. She rests from her labors and her works do follow her and the rest is all the sweeter because of the toilsome life.
