Jim Daly went to school in Pulaski where he was born, played on the football team, and then went to Syracuse University. He graduated in 1911 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and went to work for GE, moving about to Schenectady, Pittsfield, Lynn, and Syracuse. In 1914 he became manager for Northern Power at Gouverneur and moved to Ogdensburg in 1918 where he was involved in many things including civic matters. He was director of Hepburn Hospital and President of the Chamber of Commerce. In 1932 Jim became the promotion manager for Niagara Mohawk in Syracuse and retired there in 1953.
When married in 1917 he was reported as Superintendent of the Northern Transmission company.
In 1925 James M Daly and his wife Viola M, both 35, are found in Ogdensburg, NY; the family was listed with Anna Louise 6, James M 3, and Dorothy Marie 1 (1925 Election District: 02; Assembly District: 01; City: Ogdensburg Ward 03; County: St Lawrence; Page: 4).
In 1930 they still lived in Ogdensburg and were listed as James M 41, Viola M 40, married 28 years, Anna 11, James M 8, Dorothy M 6, and Mary F 2 2/12, as well as a live in servant (1930 Ogdensburg, Saint Lawrence, New York; Roll: 1642; Page: 5B; Enumeration District: 63; Image: 365.0; FHL microfilm: 2341376).
In 1940 the Daly family lived on Ostrum Avenue in Syracuse, NY and was listed as James M 51 sales manager - public utilities, Viola N 50, Anna L 21, James M 18, Dorothy M 16, and Mary F 12; there was a maid as well (1940 Syracuse, Onondaga, New York; Roll: T627_2858; Page: 5B; Enumeration District: 66-217).
