    • Gunshot Wound Fatal To Edwin Clark

      Funeral This Afternoon

A hunting fatality which deeply saddened this entire community occurred Saturday afternoon when Edwin E. Clark, a well known and highly respected farmer of the Hinman district, was accidentally shot while hunting with companions in the south eastern portion of the town of Boylston.

Mr. Clark, accompanied by Donald Seaman of Altmar, one of his farm employees, and Frank Burr of Sandy Creek, were tracking deer in the brush in the Boylston woods when Seaman mistook Mr. Clark for a deer and fired. The bullet entered Mr. Clark's right breast tearing its way completely through the body and puncturing the right lung. Dr. Harwood L. Hollis of Lacona was summoned and rendered first aid.

The badly injured man was removed in the Pratt ambulance to his home where he was also attended by Dr. F.E. MacCallum, the family physician. Both doctors did everything possible, but the shot had torn away so much of the tissues and bleeding was so profuse that medical skill could do nothing to save him. The end came a little after ten o'clock Sunday night.

Mr. Clark was born in this town 53 years ago a son of the late Henry and Mrs. Flora Clark. For many years he has operated a large farm in the Hinman district and has been active in farm organizations. He was a member of Pulaski Grange and a director of the local G.L.F. Cooperative. For a few years after his father's death he carried on the farm implement business which his father had built up, later giving his whole attention to his farming operations.

Besides his wife, Mrs. Lulu Hutchings Clark, he leaves his mother, three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Burr of Sandy Creek; Mrs. Ruth Potter of Orwell; and Miss Lulu Clark of this village, three sons, Donald Clark, Orwell; Carl and Richard of Pulaski; one sister, Mrs. J. Lloyd Matteson of Pulaski; and three brothers, Clayton Clark, Syracuse, Norman L. Clark, Pulaski, and Herbert Clark of Northhampton, Mass.

The funeral will be held at the home at two o'clock this afternoon, with the Rev. Lee A. Howe, Jr., pastor of the Baptist church, officiating. Close friends of the deceased, O.B. Trowbridge, J.R. Ellis and Otto Lilley of this village; Earl Tubbs and DeForest Stowell of Orwell, and Kenneth Murphy of Mexico, will act as the bearers
