- Alfred B. House, 85, of Hastings, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Sunnyside Nursing Home, Collamer. Born in Syracuse, he had lived in Hastings all his life, where he was a dairy farmer for over 40 years and also an oil burner repairman for Glenn's Home Heating and then for Agway Petroleum for 25 years. Alfred enjoyed restoring antique John Deere tractors, was a charter member of the John Deere 2 Cylinder Club and a 50-year member of Central Square Lodge #622 F&AM. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, the former Shirley Mae Haffenden; a daughter, Karen (Richard) Cross of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two sons, Gary (Linda) House of Central Square and Paul (Sherry) House of Hastings; eight grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Marl and Lucy (Howard) House; brothers, Carl and Vernon House; and his sister, Mary Clos. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010, at WATSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 631 S. Main St., Central Square, with burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mallory. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 6:45 p.m. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Central Square Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
