Shirley Haffenden House, 82, of Central Square, left to join her husband Alfred in Heaven on Friday, December 21, 2012, from Sunnyside Nursing Center, East Syracuse, NY. She was born August 7, 1930, in Syracuse, a daughter of Edwin and Florence Olcott Haffenden. Shirley was a graduate of Nottingham High School. On October 8, 1949, she married Alfred B. House in Syracuse, NY. Together they ran the family farm in Hastings for over 45 years. Mr. House passed away Aug ust 22, 2010. In 1982 at the age of 52, Shirley went back to nursing school and acquired her LPN from SUNY Oswego School of Nursing. She was a longtime home healthcare provider through Oswego Hospital.
She was a member of Elizabeth Caldwell Chapter 141 O.E.S., Oswego County Home Bureau and along with her husband Alfred was a charter member of the Two Cylinder Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen and Dick Cross of Fort Wayne, IN; two sons, Gary and Linda House of Central Square and Paul and Sherry House of Hastings; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce and Steve Prosonic of Chaumont, NY, and Beverly and Earl Schmelling of Bridgeport, NY; a brother, Edwin and Elaine Haffenden of Hastings; a sister-in-law, Rosalyn House; a brother-in-law, Walt Clos; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, from Watson Funeral Home, Central Square, NY. Private interment in Pine Grove Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 631 S. Main Street.
