- Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, August 30, 1860 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - At Van Buren, Jackson County, Iowa, August 15th, 1860, after an illness of about five weeks, Parkhurst P., oldest son of Omar F. and Lois E. Douglas, late of Mexico, Oswego County, New York, aged 22 years. The deceased was born in Parish, Oswego County, New York, was blessed with kind and affectionate parents, who endeavored to train him, with others committed to their charge, "in the nurture and admonitions of the Lord." Early in the spring of 1860, he with his family moved to Iowa, where upon the broad prairie, they began the toils of a new life. In June he became aroused to a consciousness of his situation, "without God, and without hope in the world," consequently he gave his heart to the Lord, and on the first day of July, he, together with three of his sisters, was baptised, and united with the Baptist Church in VanBuren, Iowa. He gave bright evidence of having passed from death unto life. In sickness he suffered a willingness to die; and with an upward wave of the hand, he passed away, leaving a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his departure. K D. P.
