- BERTON C. STOWELL
Berton C. Stowell was born March 6, 1867 in the town of Orwell, N.Y., the son of Oren and Martha Chase Stowell, and passed away in the hospital at Watertown May 5, 1930.
Almost all of his life was spent in Boylston, his parents moving there when he was a boy. For many years he has been one of the most successful farmers of the town, his well-kept, modern buildings and fertile acres reflecting the care and thought of their owner.
He was united in marriage with Miss Ettie Hunt of Boylston, November 7, 1887 and to this union six children were born: Sylvia, who died in August, 1906, Ward, Celia, wife of Clarence Curtis, Leon H., Hugh S. and Lula Mae, who married Kent L. Peters and who died April 13, 1928.
Mrs. Ettie Stowell died July 29, 1901. October 31, 1906, Mr. Stowell was united in marriage with Mrs. Nettie McDougal Snyder, daughter of William McDougal of Boylston. Their married life was spent on the farm known as the McDougal farm.
Mr. Stowell was a man unusually devoted to his home and family, a kind and loving husband and father.
He was a man of many warm friends; a citizen of sterling integrity and one whose place in the community will not soon be filled. He was a member of Sandy Creek Grange for many years and for years an attendant of the Wesleyan church.
He is survived by his widow, three sons, one daughter and twelve grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from his late home Wednesday afternon, May 7, conducted by Rev. E.D. Carpenter and burial was made in the Wesleyan cemetery.
