- Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, August 29, 1878 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - "July 23d, Richard Carr, aged 85 years." The Democrat of a recent date contained that simple announcement. There are circumstances, however, which would seem to call for a more extended notice of Mr. Carr's death. He was born in Vermont in 1793, and moved into this town in 1810. That early date would make him one of the pioneer settlers of this section of the country, and it also brought him into that local excitement of 1812 of which this county, from its position, had so large a share. In 1828 he married Laura Anderson. Of their four children, two, Jerome Carr and Mrs. Tryon survive them. March 15, 1840, Mr. and Mrs. Carr united with the Baptist Church in this village by baptism. In its fellowship they remained until they died. By a singular coincidence the 10th anniversary of her death was the day on which his funeral occurred. According to the testimony of others he had been waiting his summons, "having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ, which is far better."
