- August 16, 1889 ~ Elizabeth Johnson, age 21 years, Married, born in New York, Daughter of Ebenezer and Susannah Moody, died in Pulaski of chronic diarrhea.
Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, August 22, 1889 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - In this village, August 16, Mrs. Sophia Elizabeth Moody Johnson, age 21 years, of consumption. The deceased was born in this town June 4, 1868, and was married June 22, 1887, to Mr. Frank Dimock Johnson, also a native resident of this village. The deceased possessed rare charms of person and disposition, a countenance radiant with cheerfulness, of unfailing kindness and amiability of spirit, a stainless purity of character, a conscientious fidelity to duty which won for her since this steam and devoted affection from a wide circle of friends, as was most fully attested by the very large attendance at her funeral and the profound manifestation of grief and sympathy. Just eleven weeks before her death her firstborn, a son, was placed in the joyful mothers arms for his first caress, to claim and share the maternal care. But the delicate constitution of the mother proved on equal to the task of maternal love, and gradually and slowly she sank away under the power of a disease which the skill of her physicians, and the faithful and devoted care of her mother, husband and friends were impotent to arrest. For three years before her decease she had been a faithful and devoted teacher in the Sabbath school. Three weeks before her death, at her special requests, the ordinance of baptism was administered to herself and her infant son. She still anticipated recovery, but when the announcement was made to her a few days before her death, that her physicians had surrendered all hope, with the most tranquil trust, she committed her child to a heavenly father's care and guardianship, and met the conscious approach of death with the most placid resignation, and with frequent expressions of longing for the blessed and internal rest. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dr. Douglas, a former pastor, who had both performed the wedding ceremony and administered the ordinance of baptism to the deceased, with her infant son, assisted by Rev. A. H. Post, the pastor of the Congregational church.
