    • ONEIDA - Russell H. Tucker, 85, of Glenwood Avenue, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, in the Oneida Healthcare Center, where he had been a patient for the past three days.

      Born in Clark Mills on May 22, 1924, he was the son of Herbert and Alice Russell Tucker. A lifelong resident of the area, he was educated in the Clinton Schools. He married Alice Pizon in Vernon on April 25, 1975.

      Prior to his retirement, Russell was a supervisor for more than 40 years with Oneida Limited. He was a 55-year member and past commander of the Sherrill American Legion, Post No. 230, and served with the honor guard, a member and past commander of the Oneida County American Legion, a member of the Oneida Limited Retirement Club and the Community Associated Club. Mr. Tucker was of the Protestant faith. Russell was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army in the 81st Chemical Motor Battalion under General George Patton.

      Surviving besides his wife, Alice, are one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Jo Tucker of Austin, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Peter Fiorini of Chittenango; two stepsons, David Brown of Los Angeles, Calif. and Richard J. Brown of Pulaski; two stepdaughters, Donna Heffler and her husband, James of Mukwonego, Wis. and Carol Wilson and her husband, David of Moncure, N.C.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a stepson, Donald Brown in June of 2009.

      In keeping with Russ's wishes, there will no public visitation or services. A private family service will be held at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, 260 Main St., Oneida, following the holiday weekend. Spring interment will be made in Skinner Cemetery, Vernon Center. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Sherrill American Legion, Post 230, Seneca Avenue, Sherrill, NY 13461. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home.
