      A Celebration of Life for Mildred Olmstead Drake will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Orwell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Drake officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell. Mrs. Drake died on March 5 of this year.

      Mildred Olmstead Drake, 101, of 19717 Loveland Road, died on Friday evening, March 5, 2010 at The Country Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, Carthage. Mrs. Drake was born in Orwell, NY on January 3, 1909 the only daughter of the late Fred L. and Lela Bambury Olmstead, she graduated from Pulaski High Academy in 1927, and from Syracuse University in 1931. On August 15, 1931, in Orwell, she married Francis Wilson Drake at her parent's home, the late Frederick & Ruby Lyons (her step-mother) Olmstead, where they celebrated an outdoor wedding. Mr. Drake died October 16, 1967. When they were younger Mildred and Francis operated a dairy farm in Chaffee, NY from 1931 to 1943 when they moved to Orwell. Mr. Drake owned and operated a dairy farm in Richland, and she became part of the daily operation of the Olmstead IGA General Store in Orwell, which was in operation since 1846. Mildred continued to run the family store until she retired in 1981. Mrs. Drake moved to Loveland Road in 1993. She is survived by her two children, a son, Phillip F. Drake of Pulaski, a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and David Porter of Adams Center; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Janet Durant Drake. Mildred was a member of Orwell Union Church, and the Dalked Class. She was a member of Sigma Nu of Kappa Delta, Syracuse Chapter. Mildred also was a senior volunteer in Oswego County for R.S.V.P. for 20 years, and United Way volunteer in Venice, FL., from 1981 to 1997. There will be a Celebration of Mildred's life with the family in May at the Orwell Union Church with burial in the Orwell Evergreen Cemetery.
