    • Harold A. 'Mike' Mowers

      Newark Valley: Harold A. 'Mike' Mowers, 94, passed away on Nov. 10, 2011 following a brief illness.

      'Mike' was born on Dec 26, 1916 in Altmar, NY, the youngest of the 9 children born to George L. and Myrtle Wait Mowers. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his siblings and his wife Greta Berry. Mike is survived by his sons, Jerry and Jim Mowers and his grandchildren Tina, Cameron, James, Pearl, and Jovan. As a young man, Mike was employed by NY Central Railroad as a fireman and engineer and then during WW2, he served with the US Coast Guard. He later was employed as an Ironworker with Local Union 60, Syracuse and retired following 25 years of service.

      Graveside services will be held at the Nichols Cemetery at 10 am on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011. Pastor Donna Martin will officiate. MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley is assisting the family with arrangements. Memories and condolences may be shared in his guestbook at macphersonfh.com
