Harold A. "Pete" Gilson Jr., 80, of 36 North St., died Thursday at his home.
Mr. Gilson retired in 1981 after 14 years as a machinist at P&K Manufacturing, now Metal Tech, and previously had been a bartender at the former Log Cabin Restaurant. He also was a carpenter for several area contractors for many years.
He lived in Pulaski most of his life and was a member of Robert Edwards American Legion Post 358 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7289. He also was a former Little League coach and the mascot and a player for the Pulaski Panthers Baseball Team. He enjoyed hunting.
Born Oct. 8, 1921, at Oswego, son of Harold A. Sr. and Luella Allen Gilson, he graduated in 1940 from Pulaski Academy and Central School in its first graduating class since centralization.
He served in the Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946 aboard the USS LST 577 in the Pacific theater.
He married Geraldine Simser on Aug. 21, 1948, at Pulaski Methodist parsonage with the Rev. James N. Pauley officiating. She died April 7, 1996.
Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie L. Loomis, Pulaski; three sons, Gary A., Scriba, Edward A., Pulaski, and Terry J., Lacona, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Harold A. ''Pete'' Gilson Jr., 80, of 36 North St., Pulaski, died Thursday. Born in Oswego, he lived in Pulaski most of his life and graduated from Pulaski Academy High School. He retired in 1981 after 14 years with P&K Manufacturing and had previously been a bartender at Log Cabin Restaurant. He was a member of American Legion Robert Edwards Post 358 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7289, both in Pulaski. He was a former Little League coach in Pulaski. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. His wife, the former Geraldine Simser, died in 1996.Survivors: A daughter, Bonnie L. Loomis of Pulaski; three sons, Gary A. of Scriba, Edward A. of Pulaski and Terry J. of Lacona; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Services: 1 p.m. Sunday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home.
