The funeral for Ruth H. Payne, 87, Route 3, town of Ellisburg, formerly of Springbrook Apartments, Pulaski, will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, with the Rev. Sharon D. Satterlee, pastor of Belleville United Methodist Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Ellisburg Cemetery.
Mrs. Payne died Sunday afternoon at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.
Calling hours will be before and after the funeral, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
She had operated her own beauty salon in Sandy Creek and had at one time worked at the Rex Potts Drug Store in Pulaski.
She was a member of Ellisburg United Methodist Church, the Willing Workers women’s group at the church and the Order of the Eastern Star in Sandy Creek and enjoyed stamp collecting.
Born March 29, 1918, in DeKalb, daughter of David and Pearl Weatherup Holland, she attended school in DeKalb and graduated from Pulaski Academy and Central School and from Beaux Arts Beauty School in Syracuse.
She married Robert Willis Payne on Sept. 30, 1956, in DeKalb. They moved to their home on Route 3, where they operated a dairy farm of registered Brown Swiss cows. Mr. Payne, a longtime rural letter carrier for the Mannsville Post Office, died Sept. 4, 2004.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael, Seattle, Wash., and Peter and Debra, Mannsville; four sisters, Elma Marshall and Helen Weegar, both of DeKalb, June Gabriel, Hilton, and Dorothea Johnson, Sonoma, Calif.; two brothers, Stanley Holland, Lorraine, and James Holland, DeKalb, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Clyde and David Holland, died before her.
Donations may be made to the Ellisburg United Methodist Church.
