Whitney E. Schouten, 96, a resident of Pineville, passed away Thursday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse. Whit was born June 12, 1925, in Syracuse. He resided in Pineville since 1920, moving to Pulaski in 2004. Whit graduated from Pulaski Academy High School in 1934. He married Lois Tryon on May 21, 1938; she died May 3, 1992.
Whit was employed by the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department for 20 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the former Pulaski Grange #730, the Fraternal Order of Police and a charter member of the Oswego County chapter.
Surviving: two sons, David John (Suzanne) Schouten of Parish and John Allan Schouten of Floral City, FL; his companion, Jean Martin; one brother, Glenn Schouten of Chaumont; one sister, Fern Seamans of Burlington Flats, NY; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Whitney was predeceased by one son, Raymond Schouten, on June 24, 2007.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski, NY, with Reverend Denise Bowen officiating. Burial in Pineville Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the funeral.
