- Newspaper Obituary - December 21, 2002 Watertown Daily Times - RICHARD A. TOWSLEY - DAIRY FARMER, TRUCK DRIVER - Richard A. Towsley, 88, of 4016 Route 11, died Thursday in the emergency room at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center, Syracuse. Mr. Towsley was a dairy farmer for 65 years and was a truck driver for the town of Richland for 29 years, retiring in 1976. Born March 27, 1914, in Florence, son of Avery and Fannie Richardson Towsley, he attended school in Dugway. He married Florence Sassen on June 12, 1937, in St. John the Evangelist Church. Mrs. Towsley died Feb. 21, 1996. Mr. Towsley was a member of the Pulaski Senior Citizens. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley and Harold England, Sandy Creek, June Rivers, Mexico, and Mary Jane and David Mayers, Clay; four sisters, Jennie Thomas, Rome, Mrs. Harold (Margaret) McMahon, Sackets Harbor, Mrs. Kenneth (Gladys) Thomas, Watertown, and Mrs. David (Beverly) Ross, Maryland; a brother, Vernon, Lee Center; nine grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Five sisters, a brother and a great-grandchild died before him. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Church with the Rev. John Hogan officiating. Spring burial will be in South Richland Cemetery, Fernwood. Calling hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Taylor-Vida Funeral Home. He retired in 1976 as a truck driver for the town of Richland after 29 years. He was a farmer in the Pulaski area for 65 years. He was a member of Pulaski Senior Citizens. His wife, Florence, died in 1996. Survivors: Three daughters, Shirley England of Sandy Creek, June Rivers of Mexico and Mary J. Mayers of Clay; four sisters, Jennie Thomas of Rome, Margaret McMahon of Sackets Harbor, Gladys Thomas of Watertown and Beverly Ross of Maryland; a brother, Vernon of Lee Center; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild.
