      Myrtle P. Mahaffy, 83, a longtime resident of Orwell, died Friday at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown.

      Mrs. Mahaffy was employed by McKean Insurance Agency, Pulaski, for four years and previously worked for Hasting Insurance Agency from 1940 to 1987. She also operated a family dairy farm for more than 60 years.

      She was a member of Park United Methodist Church, Pulaski, and a former member of the Women's Bowling League.

      Born April 3, 1920, in Orwell, daughter of Marshall and Minnie Finster Pennock, she graduated in 1937 from Sandy Creek High School.

      She married Yates B. Mahaffy on Sept. 30, 1945, at Sandy Creek Methodist parsonage with the Rev. Herbert Harrison officiating.

      Surviving besides her husband are a nephew, Lee Pennock, Hermon, and a niece, Sue Pennock, Lowville.

      Two brothers died before her, Ward Pennock in 1986 and Carl Pennock in 1999.

      The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski. Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

      A calling hour will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
