SPEDDING, Thomas J.
Thomas J. Spedding, 72, beloved husband to Doris (Gordon) Spedding of Vernon, peacefully passed away Sunday morning after a brief illness. Son of the late William and Flora Maybell (Smith) Spedding, Thomas was born in Pulaski, NY on February 11, 1940. He enlisted in the US Air Force after high school and was stationed in Wyoming for four years. While serving he met and married his wife Doris. He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a BS in Chemistry and worked for the Bureau of Land Management. After 21 years in Wyoming, the family moved to Waynoka, Oklahoma where Thomas went to work for USPCI. He retired in 2004 and he and Doris moved to Connecticut to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. Thomas loved fishing and playing on computers, especially online gaming, and participating in reenactments from US history. He and his family enjoyed shooting muzzleloader rifles and dressing in period clothing from the Western mountains. He was a colorful character with an irreverent sense of humor. Thomas was a loving husband, father, and grandpa who is loved and mourned and will never be forgotten. In addition to Doris, his wife of 51 years, he leaves a daughter, Dina Bates and her husband Christopher of Windsor; a sister, Irene Gugula and her husband Frank of Hannibal, NY; four grandchildren, Aaron Michael Jacobs and his wife Amanda of Enid, OK, Scott Thomas Burton of Enfield, Brittany Paige Burton and Alexa Christine Bates, both of Windsor. Thomas was predeceased by two brothers, Edward, and Clifford Spedding and a sister, Anna Tift.
A celebration of his life will be held 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service beginning at 9 a.m. Tom's family asks guests to please consider abandoning the conservative dress of black or navy and wear fun and colorful attire for this event. Rather than a flower arrangement, please consider a donation to the Windsor Rehabilitation Recreational Fund, 581 Poquonock Avenue, Windsor, CT 06095, or a live outdoor plant for his memorial garden. His family wishes to thank the professional doctors, nurses, and staff of Windsor Rehabilitation Center for their gentle, compassionate care and support.
