- Newspaper Obituary - Monday, January 27, 1975 Palladium Times - Oswego, New York - Richland Fatality - Elderly Man Victim Of Fire in Trailer - Pulaski - An elderly Town of Richland man died of burns suffered in his trailer home shortly before 4:45 p.m. Sunday, according to sheriffs deputies and Oswego Fire Control. Pronounced dead at Oswego Hospital was Jerry Look, 86, of County Route 2, Richland. Officials said Look apparently had been cooking when his clothing caught fire. They said Look managed to get his coat off, but was unable to shed his other flaming garments. He was found slumped on a sofa, which also had caught fire. Only slight fire damage was done to the trailer, according to Richland Fire Department officials who extinguished the fire. The burner on the stove was still lit, officials said. His death is the county's first fire fatality this year. Assistant District Attorney, James Grose ordered the body taken to the Oswego County morgue for an autopsy. Investigating were Deputy Dean Goodsell and Lt. Thomas Teifke. Born in Richland, Mr. Look attended schools there. He and his wife, the late Beulah Carpenter Look, operated a farm on the Jerry Look Road. He retired in 1968, moving to his present home. He was a member of the Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church. Surviving are a son, Milford J., of Richland; two daughters, Mrs. Mable Patterson of Chicago and Mrs. Dorothy Hudson of Webster; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Clarence of Sodus and Albert of Lacona and a half-sister, Mrs. Edna Widrig of Cleveland. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home. Spring burial will be in Richland Cemetery. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Newspaper Obituary - January 29, 1975 Pulaski Democrat - Fire Claims Life Of Richland Resident - Jerry Look, 86, of County Route 2, Richland died from burns he received in his trailer home on Sunday January 26. When the Richland Fire Company extinguished the blaze at about 4:45 p.m., they discovered Mr. Look slumped on a sofa which had also caught fire. According to investigators at the scene, Mr. Look had been cooking when his clothing caught fire. He had managed to get his coat off, they said, but was apparently unable to shed his other garments. Investigators said that the burner on the stove was lit when they arrived and that only minor fire damage was done to the trailer. Mr. Look was born on February 27, 1888 in the Town of Richland, the son of Eugene and Mary Barlow Look. He attended Richland District Schools and later married the former Beulah Carpenter. The couple owned and operated a dairy farm on the Jerry Look Road in the Town of Richland for about 40 years. He retired in 1958 when he moved to his present home. Mr. Look was a member of the Wesleyan Church at Sandy Creek. He is survived by one son, Milford Look of Richland; two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Patterson of Chicago, Ill. and Mrs. Norman (Dorothy) Hudson of Webster, N.Y; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; two half brothers, Clarence Look of Sodus and Albert Look of Lacona; one half sister; Mrs. Edna Widrig of Cleveland, N.Y. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 29 at 1 p.m. at the Foster Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski with the Rev. Charles Wheeler officiating. Spring burial will be held in the Richland Cemetery.
