      Death of James McLear
Former Well Known Resident of Hammond Passed Away at Sandy Creek Thursday Last
James McLear, a native of the town of Morristown, but who for years leaved in Hammond, died Thursday morning at his home at Sandy Creek after a long period of failing health caused from a complication of diseases, aged about 70 years. Mr. McLear was born near Brier Hill, a son of the late Hugh and Margaret McLear, pioneers of that section. For years the subject of this sketch followed the occupation of drilling and he was well-known throughout a wide section of Southern St. Lawrence county. He was a man of powerful build and in his prime he attained the great weight of 300 pounds and was still active and a hard worker. He was a veteran of the Civil War and in politics he was an ardent Republican, his father and brothers all being Democrats. Several years ago he left Hammond and located at Mexico, Oswego County, and later he wetn to Sandy Creek. Over 40 years ago he was married to Miss Hannah Hunter of Rossie, who survives him, also seven sons and four daughters, and one sister, Mrs. Colonel Moyer of Fowler. His brother George McLear died in the village several years ago and another brother, Francis McLear died in Rossie village about two years ago.

The funeral services were conducted from St. Patrick's Church at Rossie at 10 a.m. by Rev. Father Crowley and interment was made in St. Patrick's Cemetery near that village.
