    • Stuart was baptized as "Stewart Willard" at St. Mary's in Florence on July 25, 1948. His Godparents were Patrick & Josephine Hanbury. Stuart later went to live in Camden with the William O'Rourke family. He attended Camden Schools and following graduation he was drafted in the service during Vietnam, and later re-enlisted for a term. He left as a "specialist 5 Sargeant 5" in the Army. He served one year combat in Vietnam. Returning home Stu joined the Laborers Union and worked at a variety of projects alongside his brothers. He was hired by Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation in 1988 and worked in the Nuclear division for several years.
      Stuart is active in the VFW and served on the Oswego County Republican Committee from 1996 to 1999. he and his family live in Lacona, New York (2014)

      Stuart William Yerdon, 77, of Lacona, NY passed away peacefully at the Syracuse VA Hospital with family at his side on Friday, October 17, 2025.

      Stuart was born on April 17, 1948 at home in Redfield, NY to Oren “Ike” & Alice Yerdon. Throughout childhood Stuart was lovingly raised by William “Bill” & Margaret “Peg” O’Rourke (Alice’s cousin). He attended Camden Elementary and High School and worked at Kirch Hardware in Camden. He proudly served in the US Army from March 1968 to March 1971.

      In Vietnam, he worked as a mechanic repairing helicopters with the 1st Aviation 214th Battalion (originally known as the 222nd) attached to the 195th Helicopter Combat Assault Company at the ‘Plantation’ in Vietnam. While there he saw Bob Hope entertaining the troops on Christmas 1968. In the fall of 1969 he was reassigned to the 48th Transportation Unit at the 87th Maintenance Battalion station outside of Stuttgart in the Bavarian Alps of Germany. While serving his country, Stuart earned the distinction as a Sharpshooter M-14 and Expert M-16, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.

      Following an honorable discharge from the service, Stuart lived in Camden and Redfield, NY. During the epic “Blizzard of 1977” in Sandy Pond, he met the love of his life, Denise Miles when they were snowed in together. They were married on September 18, 1982 and lived for many years in Lacona, NY. Stuart worked as a laborer (Local 214) building and doing road construction, at the power plants in Oswego, NY as well as a nuclear fire fighter for Niagara Mohawk. Stuart also served as a volunteer fire fighter for many years with both the Redfield and Lacona fire departments. He was active in his community through membership in the Lacona Veterans of Foreign Wars (Cable Trail #8534), American Legion and Vietnam Veterans of America.

      Stuart was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, and racing snowmobiles especially with his brothers. Stuart had a strong love for his family, spending time together, playing cards, and proudly cheering on his daughters and grandchildren as their biggest fan.

      Stuart was predeceased by his parents, Oren & Alice (Adams) Yerdon and William & Margaret (Hughes) O’Rourke, parents-in-law, Denver & Audrey (Hopkin) Miles, brothers John Oren Yerdon and William O’Rourke Jr., sister-in-law Carol (Falke) Yerdon, brother-in-law William Robertson and niece Tanya (Merritt) Yerdon.

      He is survived by his wife, Denise (Miles) Yerdon, his daughters, Danielle (Yerdon) Ehret and her husband, Trevor Ehret and their three children, Patrick, Gavin and Julia, of Williston, VT; Kathryn (Yerdon) Hilton and her husband, Kip Hilton, of Pulaski, NY and their four sons, Kip, Grayson, Levi and Mattox. He is also survived by six brothers, Francis, Michael, Patrick and his wife Linda, Kern and his wife Mary, Ambrose and his wife Molly, Herbert and his wife Marie, two sisters, Barbara (O'Rouke) Young, Bethel (Yerdon) Robertson; two brothers-in-law, Jim Miles, Randy Miles and his wife Donna, sister-in- law, Martha Lawrence; many nieces and nephews, Mitchell, Roger, Valarie, Victoria, Brenda, Michael, Danica, Ryan, Angie, Tonya, Corey, Jeanette, James, Jessica, Margaret, MaryBeth, Craig, Abraham, Charlotte, Carey, Sarah, William, Catherine, Jonathan, Heather, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Tom, Karen, Amy, Jennifer, Patrick, Harold, Tom, Robbie their spouses, children, grandchildren, close extended family and many friends.

      Calling hours and a celebration of life will be held from 5-8 pm on Friday, October 24th at the Redfield Fire Dept. The funeral will be at 11am on Saturday, October 25th at St. John’s the Evangelist Church in Camden followed by a burial at the Greenboro cemetery in North Redfield. Following the services there will be a gathering at the Halfshire Historical Society in Richland.

      In honor of Stuart W. Yerdon, donations may be made to Honor Flights, a program he was recognized by in 2022.
