- ONEIDA/PENN YAN - Margaret Ellen Loomis, age 93, passed away on Thursday.
Margaret was the daughter of Libbie and Thomas Andrews. She graduated from Oswego State College in 1942 and began her teaching career in Pulaski Schools that same year. In 1959, she joined the Penn Yan Central School District where she taught first grade. In 1973, she was selected as Outstanding Teacher of the America. She retired in 1983. Peg treasured her family and friends, enjoyed traveling, reading, playing bridge and was passionate about many other social activities. She was a member of the Yates County Retired Teachers Association, Penn Yan Women's Club, Loyal Order of the Moose and the Lakeside Country Club.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory: four daughters, Pegianne Arnold, Sharon Hayes, Jean Housel, Susan Collatz; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of forty-nine years, Robert Loomis and her daughter, Deborah Loomis.

A memorial service will be held on Friday (October 17) at 1:00 p.m. at the Weldon Funeral Home in Penn Yan, New York. Friends may pay their respects on Friday (October 17) from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Burial services will follow at the Lakeview Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
