Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, December 1, 1897 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - On Wednesday of last week our citizens were pained to learn of the death of Mr. Benjamin Pierce. For a week previous to his death Mr. Pierce had been suffering from the effects of a fall which he received in his store, but on Tuesday he had so far recovered as to be able to go out. He started for the home of his brother, who lives a short distance from his own residence, and as he stepped upon the snowy veranda his feet slipped and he fell striking upon his face. He was rendered unconscious by the fall and remained in that condition until the time of his death. He was one of the oldest members of the Baptist church of this village and will be greatly missed, as he was a regular attendant at all the services. His funeral was held Saturday, November 27, from his late residence. Besides his aged wife he leaves two sons and one daughter, Winslow Pierce, of South Richland; Ward Pierce and Miss Eva Pierce of this village. Benjamin Pierce was born in the town of Jeffrey, New Hampshire, in 1813. In 1838 he was married to Louisa A. Scott, of Manchester, New Hampshire, and they immediately came to New York State and resided on a farm in the town of Richland. In 1850 he went to California and remained there a year. Returning to his home, he remained about a year and in a subsequent trip to California he was gone three years. After his return he became converted and united with the Baptist church of South Richland, of which he was a deacon for a number of years. In 18_ he came to Pulaski, where he engaged in the mercantile business, in which he remained until his death.
