DANIEL G. LEWIS
VERNON - Daniel G. Lewis, 42, retired teacher in Mount Vernon schools, died Nov. 3, 1948, in his home, Mount Vernon, following a year's illness.
The son of John Lewis, Camden and the late Clara Williams Lewis, he was born March 20, 1906, in the Town of Osceola. He attended the Union Academy of Belleville, N.Y., and Syracuse, St. Lawrence, Columbia and New York Universities.
He received his Bachelor and Master's degrees and was taking courses leading to a doctorate in New York University when illness forced him to conclude his studies and resign his teaching position in Wilson Junior High School, in June, 1947.
He also taught school in Ossining, Harrisville, and Canajoharie before going to Mount Vernon.
Entering the Army in May, 1943, Mr. Lewis served in the Air Force until discharged in September 1945.
He was a member of the Community Church.
He leaves his wife, the former Clara Ford; his father, and eight brothers and sisters, Roy, Leon, Mrs. Herbert Wehle, all of Rochester; Albert, Oswego; John Jr. Pulaski; Arthur, Syracuse; Mrs. Harold Tuck, Camden, and Mrs. Donald Mattison, Utica.
Funeral services will be held in Mount Vernon Friday and in Alger Funeral home in Vernon Saturday with the Rev. Walter Brock officiating here. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vernon.
