MRS. HARRIET E. BONNEY
Private funeral services were held today for Mrs. Harriet E. Bonney, 83, widow of John W. Bonney, and grandmother of Mrs. George Corse of this village. Rev. W. Raymond Rogers, pastor of the Baptist church officiated at the Frank Bonney residence in Pulaski. Burial was in the Pulaski cemetery. Mrs. Bonney died Monday afternoon, July 31, 1939, at the home of her son, Frank Bonney, on Jefferson street in Pulaski after an illness of six months.
She was born in the town of Orwell, March 10, 1856, the daughter of Rodney and Sophia Lewis. Her parents were pioneer settlers in that vicinity and Mrs. Bonney traced her lineage to Hannah Dustin, noted heroine of the French and Indian wars. Her marriage to Mr. Bonney took place at Orwell in 1873, and the couple moved to this village. Mr. Bonney died four years ago.
Mrs. Bonney was a member of the First Baptist church and was active in its societies. She was a member of the Lake Ontario chapter, DAR, and of the J. B. Butler post, Women's Relief Corps.
Surviving are three sons, Eugene Bonney of Syracuse, Claude Bonney, a member of the Pulaski village board, and Frank Bonney, and a sister who lives at Canastota, besides 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
From the 1 Aug 1939 edition of the Oswego Palladium: "Mrs. Harriet E. Bonney, widow of John W. Bonney, died late Monday afternoon at the home of her son, Frank Bonney,chief of the Ringgold Fire Company, in south Jefferson Street after an illness of about six months. She was the daughter of Rodney and Sophia Lewis, descendents of early pioneers, and traced her ancestry back to Hannah Dustin, a heroine of the French and Indian War. She was born in Orwell, March 10, 1856, and spent her early life there. After her marriage to Mr. Bonney in 1873 she moved with him to Pulaski. He died four years ago.
"She was a member of the Pulaski Baptist Church, and was active in the various church activities as health permitted. She was also a member of the Ontario Chapter DAR and the J.B. Butler Post, WRC.
"She is survived by three sons, Frank and Claude Bonney of Pulaski and Eugene Bonney of Syracuse; a sister in Canastota; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
"Funeral services will be held privately from the home of Frank Bonney at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and burial will be in Pulaski cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday morning."
