Andrew and Elizabeth’s son, Joseph, was born in Cruagh Parish, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1831. He was the fifth child and second living son of Andrew and Elizabeth Carroll. His father was a papermaker in Ireland and followed this vocation upon arrival in this country. Joseph worked in the paper mills with his father when he was old enough and became very proficient as a papermaker in his own right. His father became paper mill superintendent in Manchester and Windsor Locks, Connecticut. Later the family moved to New York state, and in each area of the state, Joseph worked with his father. Joseph married a girl by the name of Sarah. After many years of experience in papermaking, Joseph was appointed paper mill plant superintendent in Syracuse, where Joseph and Sara made their life-long home. Sarah and Joseph had no children. Joseph died in February 1904. ~~The Outterson Family Book, page 44.
