- Nelson Jennings was born in the Town of Parish. His early life was spent on his father's farm. When a young man, he learned the blacksmith trade from the late Lester Pickens. He moved to West Amboy and worked for David Garber, later purchasing the shop and business for himself. In October 1879, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary McLymond. Two children came to this union. In Nov 1899, he purchased the Barber blacksmith shop in Parish where he has since made his home. Several years ago, he gave up the shop to his son, but he kept up the agency for farm machinery. He was taken ill suddenly on the morning of June 18th with an attack of erysipilas. He was not considered serious but was sick only a week, the end coming the evening of June 25th. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son Harry of Parish, a daughter Mrs Frank Hammecker of French St, two grandchildren and a brother Charles Jennings of Cleveland, N.Y. The funeral was held from his home and burial was in Pleasant Lawn Cemetery.
