      ONEONTA _ Janet Ellis Green, 92, died at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010.

      She was the widow of Byron J. Green, who predeceased her on Dec. 3, 1997.

      She was born to W. Jay and Mary E. Ellis on July 4, 1918.

      She was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, (Capt. John H. Smith, U.S.A.;) a sister, Rosemary E. Cruickshank of Springfield, Ore.; and a brother-in-law, Thaddeus A. Green of Greenville, S.C.

      Mrs. Green was a graduate of New York State College for Teachers at Albany, now part of State University at Albany. A 42-year career as librarian included 26 years at State University College at Oneonta in "Readers Services" and several years as librarian at St. Mary's School in Oneonta. She was a beloved teacher and friend-a special person who touched many lives.

      She is survived by a sister, Jean P. Manwarren of Pulaski; two nieces and two nephews, Marjorie A. Minotti of North Tonawanda, Joan C. Pfluger of Pulaski, Ward J. Manwarren of Pulaski, and C. Douglas Cruickshank of Springfield, Ore., and Anchorage, Alaska; two great-nieces; five great-nephews; and a great-great-niece and a great-great-nephew; also a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Caldine of Fairfax, Va.

      There will be no funeral or memorial service at her request.

      After cremation, her ashes will be interred in Cook Cemetery, West Oneonta, at the convenience of the family.

      Memorial contributions may be directed to Science Discovery Center Endowment Fund, College at Oneonta Foundation, 308 Netzer Administration Building, State University College at Oneonta, Oneonta, NY 13820-4015 or to a charity of one's choice.

      Arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home of Unadilla.
