Newspaper Obituary - Thursday Evening, March 29, 1900 Oswego Daily Palladium - Oswego, New York - Albion, March 27 - Our neighborhood was very much shocked last Wednesday to hear of the sudden death of the Rev. R. A. Burdick, aged seventy-two years. Although he had been troubled with his heart for some time, he had worked all the forenoon and ate his dinner as well as usual. After dinner he went out and a few minutes after was found dead on the barn floor. Mr. Burdick had been a resident of this place for many years. After becoming an ordained minister, he was pastor of the Albion Baptist church. From here he went to South Hannibal and for a number of years was pastor of the Baptist church. Going from there to Oswego, he had charge of the church there for some time. Then returning to his farm in this place, he had for the past year been pastor of the Albion Baptist church. He was an exemplary Christian man, to be well acquainted with him one knew his worth. He leaves a loving wife and two children, one daughter, Mrs. M. Marvin, of Pulaski, and one son, Ernest, who lives at home. His funeral was largely attended at Fernwood last Saturday, the Rev. Mr. Marshall officiating. Burial at Willis cemetery.
Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, March 28, 1900 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - West Albion - Our neighborhood was suddenly shocked to hear that Rev. R. A. Burdick was dead. He ate his dinner and went to the barn to do some light chores and in a few minutes his son Ernest and Melvin Hutchins went in the barn and found him dead. He had been troubled with a weak heart for some time but seemed as well as usual. Besides leaving a large circle of friends and neighbors, he leaves a wife, one son Ernest, and one daughter, Mrs. Morgan Marvin, of Pulaski, and a sister, Mrs. E. A. Douglas who is very feeble. Rev. R. A. Burdick was born in Otego, Otsego county, July 24, 1827. He was of a family of four children, two brothers and two sisters all of whom have died except Mrs. Douglas who has made her home with her deceased brother for several years. Mr. Burdick was converted when he was eight years old, united with the Baptist church in South Richland, now Fernwood, New York in his twelfth year. He was convinced after many years that he ought to teach the gospel. He supplied the pulpit of the Albion church for a time then settled as pastor and was ordained to the ministry, November 5, 1879. He remained here two years. In 1881 he accepted a call from the church in South Hannibal where he remained seven years. His next pastorate was with the church in Owasco where he labored four years. From there he moved to his farm in the town of Albion where he lived until his death, March 21, 1900. He had served as pastor of the Albion church during the past year, but failing health led him to resign the work. He was well known throughout this county as a teacher of music having devoted much of his time to that profession. The community has lost in the death of Mr. Burdick and honored citizen, the church a useful and devoted Christian and minister. The funeral was held at the Baptist church in Fernwood, Saturday, March 24, conducted by the pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. Joseph Hutchins and Rev. Christman, of the M. E. church.
