- Newspaper Obituary - August 13, 2008 Syracuse Post Standard - Syracuse, New York - Martha Benjamin Chatterton, age 85, US Route 11, Mannsville, formerly of Pulaski, died August 12, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse. Widow of Clarence Benjamin and Warren Chatterton. Survived by three daughters, Elaine (Calvin) Fairchild of Pulaski, Penny (James Jr.) Shutts of Sandy Creek, Lois Benjamin of Jacksonville, Florida; one son, Garry (Robin) Benjamin of Mannsville; three Chatterton stepchildren, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Funeral Services: Friday, 10 a.m. at Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Pulaski. Calling Hours: Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Martha Benjamin Chatterton, 85, of 510 Route 11, formerly of Pulaski, died Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center, Syracuse.
Mrs. Chatterton was a cook at the former Pasco's Diner, Pulaski, and also worked at Selkirk Shores State Park, town of Richland.
Born Aug. 3, 1923, in Adams, daughter of Glenn and Anna Chase Ward, she graduated from Pulaski High School in 1941.
She married Clarence Benjamin on June 13, 1947, in Oswego. The couple lived in Pulaski. Mr. Benjamin died Feb. 6, 1975. She married Warren Chatterton on Dec. 16, 1977. They lived in Mannsville. Mr. Chatterton died Sept. 3, 1994.
Mrs. Chatterton was a volunteer at Community Ministries Food Pantry, Pulaski, and a past member of Sandy Creek Grange 127, chaplain of Pomona Grange and member of New York State Grange. She also was a member of Pulaski Baptist Church and Lake Ontario Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 124, Sandy Creek, and a former member of the Pulaski Rebekah Lodge.
Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Elaine and Calvin Fairchild, Pulaski, Penny and James Shutts Jr., Sandy Creek, and Lois Benjamin, Jacksonville, Fla.; a son and his wife, Garry and Robin Benjamin, Mannsville; six grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Wally and Marvin Ward, and two sisters, Gladys White and Anna Marie Lindsey, died before her.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek, with lay pastor George Irwin, of Pulaski Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Pulaski.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where OES Chapter 124 will conduct a service at 6:30 p.m. and the Grange will have a service at 8:15 p.m.
