VERNON B. GAYNE SR.
Watertown Daily Times (NY) - April 3, 2011
Vernon B. Gayne Sr. age 91 of Dunedin, Fla., died on March 30th at Palms of Largo.
He was born in Herrings, New York and moved to Dunedin in 1985 from Watertown, New York.
Vernon was a General Foreman with New York Air Brake Company for almost 40 years in Watertown.
He served during WWII in the US Army in Italy.
Vernon was a longtime blood donor with the New York blood bank. He was an avid fisherman, winning numerous tournaments including the "WWNY Big Bass" in New York. He enjoyed golf and was in charge of the golf league at the Golden Crest Mobile home park in Dunedin.
Vernon was an avid white tail deer hunter in the Adirondack Mountains in New York. He coached his four sons in baseball and softball, while also encouraging and guiding his two daughters through nursing school.
Among his many accomplishments, he designed and built a cottage for his family on Guffin's Bay in New York, which they have enjoyed for many years, and is still in the family to this day.
Vernon was a devoted husband for 62 years to Dorothy until her death in 2001. His daughter Diane died in 1976.
He is survived by his son Vernon Jr. and his wife Nancy of Largo; daughter, Renee May and her husband Michael of Webster, NY; son, John and his wife Mary Ellen of Safety Harbor; son, Bruce and his wife Jo Anne of Adams, NY and son Michael also of Adams, NY.; also 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 3rd at 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, located 1320 Main Street, Dunedin. A Funeral Mass will be on Monday, April 4th at 12:00 noon at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, located at 750 San Salvador in Dunedin.
Memorial Donations in Vernon's name can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
