LACONA - Wallace H. Gibbs, age 78, of Lacona, died Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse after being stricken ill while working in Panther Lake. Born Nov. 23, 2930, in Rome, NY, son of Alton and Frances Phelps Gibbs. He married the former Patricia A. Maitland on April 22, 1954. They lived in Henderson and Boylston. Mrs. Gibbs died June 7, 1989. He was formerly employed by Oswego Co. Highway Dept. Since 1988, he was a heavy equipment operator employed out of Local #545 C out of Syracuse.
Survived by 8 daughters: Audrey (John) Mourghan of Clay, Patricia (Rick) Bourcy of Clayton, Joan (Tim) Freer of Buffalo, Ethel (Lynn) Ralston of Sandy Creek, Teresa (Jerry) McConnell of Adams, Evelyn Gibbs, Elizabeth Gibbs both of Watertown and Lelia (Kevin) Guss of Buffalo, 6 sons: Al (Patricia) Gibbs of Sandy Creek, Rex Gibbs, Carl Gibbs both of Buffalo, Wallace Jr. (Betty) Gibbs, Robert (Tina) Gibbs both of Adams, and Wayne Gibbs of Lacona. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be held Monday 11 A.M. at Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek, Rev. Denise Bowen officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home.
