Grant Phelps
Grant "Ozzie" Phelps, 89, Venice, died Aug. 3, 2002.
He was born June 27, 1913, in Camden, N.Y., and came to Venice in 1982 from Plano, Texas. He was a civil engineer for the government, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Nokomis and American Legion Post 159 in Venice. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in the 16th Infantry Regiment. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with four Bronze Service Stars, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine; and a stepdaughter, Darlene Lindley of New York.
National Cremation Society, Venice chapter, is in charge.
